Hansen Breaksdown CSU Commit

Longmont tackle Justin Hansen talks about his recent CSU verbal.

An All-State performer with good size and solid athleticism, Justin Hansen was certain to gain DI offers, it was just a matter of time. After waiting some time for a first offer, two came in rapid succession from Colorado State and San Diego State. Wanting to concentrate on helping his Longmont squad return to the 4A state title game, Hansen pulled the trigger quickly and opted to commit to Colorado State despite continued and increasing interest from other DI programs. Yesterday PrepColorado caught up with Hansen to discuss his Colorado State verbal.

Let's get to it, Why Colorado State?

I liked the coaching staff, the direction of the football program and the class. Also, they want me to play offensive tackle. It is close to home so my family can watch me play.

What was your reasoning behind making this decision so soon after your first two offers?

The past few years I have known that Colorado or Colorado State was the best match for me.

How did you inform Colorado State of your commit?

I Called coaches Kerr and Meyer and then called Coach Fairchild. He (Coach Fairchild) was excited. I feel this is a win for everybody.

What do you bring to a college program?

Excellent pass blocking, good run blocking and athleticism. I'm coming in in pretty good shape, I'm tall and lean which is really helpful for an offensive tackle.

What do you need to improve on to prep for the college game?

I have to get stronger and faster. The college game is much more about being stronger and faster. I also have to work on my technique.

What does your Longmont team need to do to repeat last year's success?

We have young people coming up with a lot of size, but we have to train up and get them ready.

In the past year, the already athletic Hansen, has gained size, speed and some nasty, if these improvements continue, the Longmont tackle could be an early contributor for the Rams. With Hansen now committed, Colorado's top three prep tackles for the class of 2011 have all made their college choice, with Brendon Austin going to Stanford, Marc Mustoe opting for UCLA and Hansen staying home to attend Colorado State.
