Junior quarterback Mitch Griebel of Heritage High School in Littleton, Colorado is one of the Old Spice Red Zone Players of the Year. Griebel, a junior who plays quarterback, defensive back and returns punts, has led his Heritage squad to a 20-4 record over the past two seasons. Statistics show Griebel’s versatile game in that he has over 4,000 career yards of offense to go with eight career interceptions.
Griebel joins Rocky Mountain senior quarterback Bryan Peters as the only Colorado recipients of the Old Spice Red Zone award for the 2008 season. The award, which recognizes 50 players nationally, is narrowed down from 4,500 players across the nation. The last Colorado prep player to be recognized for this award was J.T. Baum of Columbine.
Griebel will return next season as one of the most experienced players in Colorado. Griebel has started since his freshman season for his dad Mike, who is the head coach at Heritage. According to Griebel’s dad, Mitch has met with recruiters from Stanford. With his experience, versatility, talent and football IQ look for other schools to soon have Griebel on their radar.
