PrepColorado has learned that Ryan Paulson of Legacy High School in
Broomfield, Colorado will attend the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. Paulson made his decision this past weekend while on a visit to the Academy. Numerous factors played into Paulson's decision, two of the most important being the opportunity to play D1 football while attaining a first class education.
Paulson, who visited Navy with parents, made his decision Saturday night when he took Navy Head Coach Ken Niumatalolo aside and told him he would like to be a part of the program. While at the academy, Paulson's host was fellow defensive end and Colorado native Richard Marshall of Broomfield, Colorado.
Paulson, who would like to study chemistry as part of a pre-med program, should be able to get into the Academy due to his 3.5 plus GPA and an impending recommendation.
Over the past two seasons, Paulsen has earned All-State and All-League honors as part of one of the top defenses in Colorado. Playing opposite of 5 star Colorado commit Nick Kasa on the Legacy defensive line, Paulson was able to establish a reputation as a hard nosed defensive end with a strong motor who is equally solid as a pass rusher and against the run. Last year, while watching film of Legacy, Paulson caught the eye of the Navy staff and once they saw his GPA as well as learned about Paulson's work ethic he was on the Midshipmen's radar.
At Navy, Paulson will continue to play defensive end as he works with defensive line coach Justin Davis. Previous to the Navy commit, Paulson was receiving interest from Colorado School of Mines and CSU-Pueblo.
