Football is the ultimate team sport, but this year in 4A football, there can be no doubt that Parker Orms has been the engine that has driven the Wheat Ridge offense all the way to the state title game. The senior CU commit has put together a monster senior campaign rushing for over 2,500 yards and scoring every way imaginable. Thus far in playoffs, Orms has rushed for over 250 yards a game. This week against Greeley West in the 4A title game, Orms faces one of, if not the toughest defense he has seen all season.
West, whose only loss this season came in a defensive slugfest against 5A Legacy, allows just over ten points a game for the season. Since playoffs, that number has dropped to right at nine points a game. The defense is led by what may be the best set of backers in 4A. Athletic Max Morgan, is undersized but constantly around the ball making plays in coverage, on blitzes and against the run. The rock of the Spartan D in Gavin Miller. The long time starter eats the opposition’s run game in a nasty way. Last week, against Pine Creek, Miller, Morgan and their defensive mates made sure the Eagles would not impose their running will.
This week in the 4A final may see one of the great matchups between a top offensive player and a top defensive team. Which will give? Here is film of Orms, how would you defend him?
