When you play opposite Nick Kasa on the defensive line, it may be difficult to get noticed, but this is not the case for Legacy defensive end Ryan Paulson. So far this season, Paulson has 27 tackles 10 of which have been for losses. Of his 13 assist, eight have gone for losses and he has recorded 4.5 sacks. Add in one interception that he returned for a touchdown and Paulson in spending more time in the other team's backfield than the opposing QB. Along with his ability to pressure the quarterback, the 6-4 230 pound Paulson is very stout against the run and can stand up against double teams.
These abilities have not gone unnoticed. Paulson reports to PrepColorado that New Mexico State University has offered a scholarship. Along with New Mexico State, Paulson is gaining interest from Navy, Arizona State, Washington, Oregon, Drake and Washington University in St. Louis. As of now, Paulson has not gone on any official visits but has gone on unofficial visits to Colorado School of Mines and the University of New Mexico.
Legacy is sitting at 7-1 as the playoffs approach due to the strength of a very good defense. Legacy is allowing less than ten points a game and over the past four games has allowed only 14 points. Regarding his units lights out D, Paulson says, "defense dominates." Speaking about his play this season Paulson states it is, "getting better each and every game; beginning to peak with performance and statistics."
Legacy closes out the regular season this week at against Horizon High School. If Legacy continues to play defense like they have recently and the offense finds consistency, the Lightning will be a serious playoff contender.
