The Season: Traveling and Camping

Legacy High School receiver Beau Trigsted of Broomfield, Colorado gives us an inside look at the summer camp and combine circuit.

Over the past couple of years one of the most popular series we have run on PrepColorado is “The Season” in the series, prep players give us an inside look at what it is like to be a high school football player today.  Some of the past alums of the season have been Michael Mankoff, Drew Davis and Brian Hendricks.  This year one of the players giving us an inside look will be receiver Beau Trigsted of Legacy High School in Broomfield, Colorado.

My name is Beau Trigsted. I am going to be a senior and play WR at Legacy High School in Broomfield, CO. I have been asked to write a diary for Scout.com about my summer football schedule, recruiting experiences, and the 2008 season for the Legacy Lightning.  We finished the year at Legacy (Colorado 5A) last year at 9-3 losing to Mullen High in the 3rd round of the playoffs.  We will be returning 14 starters off that team, and our goal is to go all the way to INVESCO Field and win the Championship this year!

My month of June looked like this… At Legacy High we have summer workouts from 7:30AM -10:00AM Mon-Fri, I also have personalized workouts at Impact Sports 2 to 3 times a week (to improve my speed & strength).  I was picked to be part of the Bronco’s HS NFL Development 7 on 7 Team that will be competing in New Orleans, LA on July 10-13. We have been practicing for that as often as we can get together.  On the recruiting side, I attended the Scout.com/Underarmour combine in Kansas City, Mo on June 8th, and attended camps at CU with my whole team (June 16-18), Air Force Academy (June 19), West Point (June 21), and the Naval Academy (June 22-25).

The highlight so far for me was the Scout.com combine.  Not only did we get hundreds of dollars of free UnderArmour stuff, but the chance to meet and compete with so many great athletes – most had multiple D1 offers – was a great experience.  I also did really well both in the timed events and the one on one’s, and came away knowing that I can compete at that level.  That is something you don’t know until you get the chance to compete.  As far as the camps are concerned, I have learned that the one-day camps are the best.  They seem to be geared just for recruits and you get to workout and get personally evaluated by your potential position coach.  My favorite so far was West Point.  I loved the atmosphere there and I really liked Coach Dan Baranik.  Coach Baranik worked the receivers out pretty hard and seemed like a really great coach.  I would love to go to one of the service academies and am leaning toward Army right now, but I also really liked both the Air Force and the Navy atmosphere and coaches too, but it is still early. By the way, Navy has the best food!

Much work to be done this summer – I will report back after New Orleans.

Go Lightning!

Beau
