Anytime Austin Rodriquez of Dakota Ridge High School gets the ball, watch out!! That touch could lead to a touchdown. Recently, the dangerous wideout filled PrepColorado in on his busy summer.
In football possessions are precious and players who can turn possessions into scores are rare. One such player is Austin Rodriquez of Dakota Ridge high school. The ultra quick receiver/returner had 30 catches last season, ten of which went for scores. Along with the talent as a receiver, Austin is a very dangerous return man. Next season, the 4A All-State performer returns to lead what could be an exciting Dakota Ridge offense.
PrepColorado: So what is going on with recruiting?
Austin Rodriguez: No offers, and still the same interest from those same schools. (Austin is getting looks from DIIs, IAAs as well as some D1 schools.)
How does your Dakota Ridge team look?
"We look really good right now. We did really well at the CU team camp, and we won the Air Force seven on seven tournament."
What players on your team do you think will surprise people this season?
"I think Brian Vander Velde will surprise people. He is our other receiver and he's big, has great hands, and blocks well."
What have you been working on this off-season?
"I've really been working on getting faster and bigger. I've been really trying to gain weight."
What do you feel you have improved on this summer?
"I think that I've improved my speed and my hands. I've caught a lot of balls this summer and it's made me better."
Are you attending any more camps, if so which ones?
"Yes, I will be going to the one-day camp at Colorado State on July 26."
What key attribute do you feel you bring to your team? What attribute will you bring to a college team?
"I think I bring great work ethic and leadership to my team, and I try to lead by example. I think I could do the same in college."
