Last week’s matchups between Mullen and Cherry Creek as well as Pomona and Bear Creek helped to shake up this week’s 5A Top Ten.

The top four remain the same but there was movement in the bottom half of the ten.  Lurking on the the edges and waiting to break in is a talented young Heritage team as well as an Arvada West squad that is three points away from being undefeated.

1.Columbine

Columbine currently is like a rock rolling down hill that is gaining momentum and crushing everything in its way.  Last week the Rebels defeated Lewis-Palmer 55-3, this week look for more of the same as they take on Sand Creek.

2.Douglas County

A big third quarter in which the Huskies scored twenty-seven points helped put Rangeview away.  This week Douglas County hosts a Regis team that has struggled  and has yet to see its first win.

3.Mullen

The Mustangs took care of business defeating rival Cherry Creek 28-14 even with the absence of their starting QB Jonny Miller.  This week they take on 1-3 Eaglecrest

4. Mountain Vista

The Golden Eagle defense continues to be stellar while the offense works to find consistency. Upcoming opponent Rangeview has the talent to make this week’s game interesting.

5. Legacy

The Lightning continue to rack up Front Range League wins. The recipe for this success has been has been an extremely balanced offensive attack and solid defense.  This week the Lightning host a 3-1 Horizon squad.

6. Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson is the only 5-0 squad in 5A and have gotten to this point with a very good offensive attack and opportunistic defense.  The Spartans will need to keep their focus as they take on a Montbello squad that while 1-3 has the talent to be dangerous.

7. Cherry Creek

After the tough loss to Mullen, the Bruins take on 3-1 league foe Smoky Hill this week.  Both teams like to throw the ball so this one could take hours but should be a lot of fun.

8. Pomona

The Panthers battered their way to a one point win over a very good Bear Creek squad.  This week Pomona will be tested as they face rival Arvada West whose only loss is a three pointer to Bear Creek.

9. Bear Creek

The young Bears will be just fine after their one point loss to Pomona as they take on winless Lakewood.

10.Overland

Nice rebound win over Smoky Hill gets the Trailblazers back in the top ten.  This week they travel to take on a Boulder squad coming off of its first win of the season.

Each week throughout the season, PrepColorado will bring you the 5A top ten.  Get on the message board and let us know who your top ten is.
