Big upsets change the balance of power in 4A and something will have to give this week in 4A football as #1 takes on #2.

Previously unbeaten Greeley West and Loveland both suffered their first loss of the season last week in Northern League play.  This week sees a huge game in the Mountain Plains League between #1 Ralston Valley and #2 ThunderRidge.

#1 Ralston Valley

The Mustangs hold the #1 spot by the slimmest of margins.  A late field goal that hit the upright and went in is all that separated the Mustangs from their first defeat of the season. This week leaves little margin for error as Ralston Valley takes on undefeated #2 ranked ThunderRidge in a crucial Mountain Plains League matchup.

#2 ThunderRidge

The Grizzlies held off a late charge to defeat Wheat Ridge 21-12 last week.  The defense has been stellar this year only allowing six points a game, but the offense will need to step up and play with consistency if ThunderRidge wants to defeat Ralston Valley.

#3 Broomfield

Offensively Ryland Snow had a huge game running for 225 yards and five scores to help his squad upset former #2 Loveland.  None of his heroics would have been possible without a strong game from the Eagle offensive and defensive line.  Next up 1-3 Mountain View

#4 Cherokee Trail

Currently the Cougars are on fire having scored eighty-nine points in the last two games.  More impressive than their offensive output is the fact that Cherokee Trail has only allowed seventeen points the entire season.

# 5 Pueblo South

The Colts will travel to take on 2-2 Canon City this week.  For the season, South has defeated its opponents on average 39-6.  QB Tony Medina is becoming one of the better dual threat QBs in 4A.

#6 Standley Lake

The Gators are 4-0 and take on winless Arvada this Saturday.  After this week, Standley Lake will earn its keep as they play the top half of the Mountain Plains League in consecutive weeks.

#7 Loveland

The Indians will be just fine. Last season Loveland had three losses going into playoffs and they did very well getting to the state championship game.  Once the offensive line gets more experience be careful!

#8. Monarch

Watch out! Since the loss to Cherokee Trail Monarch has out scored their last two opponents 118 to 0.  This week they take on Aurora Central.

#9 Greeley West

The offense felt the loss of QB Rex Morgan as the Spartans could only muster nine points against Longmont. A game against a Northridge squad that is allowing nearly thirty-three points a game may be just what the doctor ordered.

#10 Fountain Fort Carson

Making their debut in the top ten are the Spartans of Fountain Fort Carson.  The Spartans are currently 4-0 and are coming off a nice win over Pine Creek.
