5A Top Ten: Week Three

Jonathan Gaye of #3 Mullen High School

Two new teams debut in the top ten, but expect some changes as many big time games take place in 5A football this week.

Columbine rolls once again and looks to be a very solid #1.  The story of the week is the Mullen versus Cherry Creek game that sees #3 take on #6 in a battle for Centennial League supremacy.

1.Columbine

Columbine holds on to the #1 spot as they defeat a home standing Doherty squad 27-7.  This week Lewis-Palmer faces a Rebel squad hitting on all cylinders.

2.Douglas County

Another solid win this past weekend as they defeated Chaparral 36-6.  Saturday, the Huskies face a Rangeview squad that is not short on talent.

3.Mullen

Got the offense moving posting thirty-six points on a good Grandview defense.  They will need to bring it this Thursday as they take on rival and #6 ranked Cherry Creek.

4. Mountain Vista

The Golden Eagle defense has been holding the fort while the offense found its footing.  Last week against Regis, Mountain Vista looked solid on O as they put up twenty-eight points.  This week they take on winless Gateway.

5. Bear Creek

Very solid 20-0 win over Chatfield, this week they take on a Pomona squad that does not want to fall to 500.

6. Cherry Creek

The offense has been great all season averaging forty-three points a game.  The defense will need to be great this week as well as the Bruins take on rival #3 ranked Mullen.

7. Legacy

The Lightning established themselves as the team to beat in the Front Range League with a solid win over a previously unbeaten Rocky Mountain squad.  This week they take on 1-2 Northglenn.

8. Thomas Jefferson

At 4-0 Thomas Jefferson has a big one this week as they face an undefeated Denver East team that is scoring over thirty points a game.

9.Smoky Hill

On the strength of a 3-0 record and an offensive explosion that saw the Buffaloes post fifty-two points on Eaglecrest, Smoky Hill debuts in the top ten.  We will find out if they are for real as they take on a good Overland team this week.

10.Arapahoe

The Warriors look to be solid with their only loss on the season being a hard fought game against #2 Douglas County.  This week will see another tough one as they face a talented Heritage crew in Continental League play.
