Pick your poison, because when
comes to running the ball, Columbine has plenty of options. Friday night, as Palmer High School
visited Columbine, the Rebels’ weapon of choice was running back Orenzo
Davis. The 5-10 180 pound Davis put
on a show running for two scores including an electrifying sixty-one yard crowd
pleaser and a forty-three yard score.
By the end of the first half, the reigning 5A champs were up 21-0 and had
no intention of looking back. At
the end of the third, the score was 35-6 and eventually the final was 41-13.
Chad Korodaj added a run, Mat Birkeness returned an interception for a score and
Danny Spond hit Matt Wiebel with a pass for a score. In a losing cause, RB Jon
Burnley once again showed he is one of the top playmakers in 5A accounting for
both Palmer scores with a twenty-eight yard touchdown reception and a sixty-four
yard run.
Bottom Line:
Columbine pummeled their second
straight league opponent and the Rebels appear to be a team on a mission. Last week as well as this week, the game
was over by the third quarter. The
Rebels travel next week to face a Doherty squad that had a nice rebound win over
Lewis-Palmer after an opening week loss to Arvada West.
Game Ball:
Davis had a great night and adds
an explosive spark to the vaunted Rebel run game, but none of this would be
possible without the boys up front.
It seems as if whoever runs the ball is going to get yards behind
Columbine’s offensive line.
