The Douglas County Huskies used
strong defense and a punishing run game to win their league and season opener
35-6 over the Gateway Olympians.
New Husky quarterback Will Arnold showed he was more than capable of
making the transition from receiver to QB as he ran in two scores on the
evening. Along with Arnold, junior
running back Jose Astorga proved he was ready to shoulder the run load as he had
three touchdowns in the win.
Douglas County jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and never looked
back. Things may not come so easy
next week as Douglas County takes on what looks to be an improved Arapahoe
squad.
Bottom Line:
Douglas County looks once again
to be one of the top teams in 5A and will use a formula of strong defense and a
solid run game to contend. With
Arnold at QB the Huskies have a very athletic game breaker to join Jose Astorga
and Ryan Misare in the backfield.
Game Ball:
Nothing makes a coach more
nervous than the first start for a new quarterback. Will Arnold alleviated those concerns
with his two touchdown performance.
