It may not have been the
prettiest game but in a 4A Vs. 5A matchup the Fort Collins Lambkins prevailed
over Longmont 12-8. Longmont used
their ball control offense to move out to an 8-7 halftime lead. The lone touchdown on the evening for
Fort Collins came in the first half as junior receiver Hayden Ahlbrandt caught a
quick out for a score. Ahlbrandt
would add the extra point.
The second half saw the Lambkin
defense make big stops on multiple fourth down attempts by Longmont. Each defensive stop was important as the
Fort Collins offense could never get on track. Eventually, senior QB Scott Evans was
replaced and athletic Cody Donaldson took over the signal calling duties. Although the O did not score, Fort
Collins did get some ball movement with Donaldson at the helm. Fort Collins mustered five points in the
second stanza with a Hayden Ahlbrandt field goal and a safety off of a Chance Crawford punt block.
Bottom
Line:
By next week Fort Collins needs
to find some offense as they host Cherry Creek. One touchdown a field goal and a safety
will not be enough points against Jack Elway and his creek offense. Longmont will not have much time to
worry about the close loss as they host league foe Niwot next week.
Game Ball:
The Fort Collins defense made
plays when needed and held a solid Longmont team in
check.
