Mile High Shootout

Many of Colorado's best will compete this weekend in the high profile Mile High Shootout.

The ever increasing popularity of 7 on 7 continues and this weekend Denver, Colorado hosts a premiere event as top players compete in the Mile High Shoot out.  This weekend's event has ever increasing buzz as many of the state's top performers as well as numerous up and comers will participate.

Highlighting the competition is host program Colorado Connect as well as All-Star laden Team Weapon X.  Weapon X, already a qualifier for the national 7 on 7 championship to be held in Florida, is led by two of Colorado's top recruits in Eric Lee and Avery Anderson.  Also on Weapon X is All-Stater Brian Dawkins Jr.  Lee and Dawkins of Valor Christian and Anderson of Pine Creek helped their respective teams bring home state championships this past season and both Valor and Pine Creek look to have a solid chance to repeat this upcoming season.

Most intriguing, regarding this weekend's matchups, is the number of top Colorado players who are looking to raise their profile and gain a first offer.   Multiple recruitable QBs will take part.  Pine Creek's Tommy Lazzaro and Cherry Creek's Joe Caplis play for Weapon X.  Colorado connect has Chaparral QB Cole Lehman and up and coming prospect Deron Harrell of Denver East.  Team Xplosive will have Douglas County's Rope Ruel and Chaparral's Kyle Gallup making the throws.

Other players to watch are Connect's Zach Peterson, a big tight end with sneaky athleticism from Prairie View.   Weapon X boasts tremendous offensive speed with Cherry Creek's Milo Hall and James Parker.  Team Xplosive will have East safety Jalen Moore.  Mullen's Patrick Stephens is a very solid receiver who plays for Connect.

Also keep an eye on Jo Jo Domann of Pine Creek/Weapon X, Cherokee Trail/Connect receiver Ammon Johnson, a long 6-3 sleeper.  Overland/Connect DB Joshua Wright, Overland/Connect RB Ahjon Wright are two very good players currently under the radar.

We will not get to see this, but potentially the best 7 on 7 would be played by the coaches of the teams.  Connect is coached by former Colorado Buffalo and Denver East two sport standout DaVaughn Thornton.  Team Weapon X is coached by NFL great Brian Dawkins and Xplosive is coached by long time NFLer Roderick Rogers.  Colorado State receiver Jordan Vaden is an honorary ref for the event.

This great tournament is due to the efforts of Athletics and Beyond and Connect coach Narcy Jackson who organized and will host this very high profile event that showcases top talent from across the state.
