This past season, on the strength of a very good defense, Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs, brought home the 4A Colorado State title. One of the keys to this defense, which allowed fewer than 14 points a game, was defensive end Josh Klyn.
The 6-4 225 pound Klyn is well suited to his defensive end position in Pine Creek's 4-3 look. Strong in the lower body and able to take on and defeat blockers, Klyn not only holds the edge, but makes and finishes plays. As a pass rusher Klyn has a good first step and uses his hands very well. Klyn makes up for a lack of explosiveness with great tenacity and a high motor.
Klyn's on field production garnered him 1st Team All-Conference. Beyond on field production, Klyn is also a multi-sport athlete and strong student who gained Academic All-State honors. Next season Klyn returns as a top player at his position along with numerous other Pine Creek defenders. Pine Creek defensive back Avery Anderson, an early Nebraska commit, is one of the top prospects in the west, while fellow defensive back JoJo Domann and linebacker Josh Odom also return.
At the next level, Klyn is best suited to play his current defensive end position. To gain college attention, Klyn will need to become faster while gaining good weight. In regard to technique, Klyn is solid, but he will have to improve on keeping his pad level low longer.
