McCaffrey Shines Early and Often

A huge first quarter from Christian McCaffrey propels Valor to the semis.

In a quest for another 5A title Valor Christian faced off against traditional Colorado power and multiple state champ Columbine. Quickly Valor All-Stater and Stanford bound back Christian McCaffrey took over putting up 167 yards in the first quarter. By the end of the first half McCaffrey added to his gaudy numbers rushing for 235 yards and scoring three times.

Icing the game and starting the running clock, McCaffrey, midway through the third quarter, scored again rushing for a 37 yard score. The TD moved Valor to 49-6. The Rebels added a fourth quarter touchdown playing for pride. In the loss, Columbine star back, senior Bernard McDondle, had a strong first half rushing 98 yards against the tough Eagle D, but it was not enough.

The Valor win sets up a highly anticipated semifinal matchup with Cherokee Trail. Last season in the state championship game Cherokee Trail played Valor tough losing 9-0. The Cougars moved into the semi with a tough 27-14 win over rival Cherry Creek. Recommended Stories
