Playoffs go full tilt this week and 4A looks to have one of the most diverse and interesting slate of first round game is quite a few years. Traditionally powers, such as Monarch compete with multiple southern Colorado schools, Denver public schools and schools from the far west of the state.
#1 Montrose vs #16 Montbello
Any viewers of this site know I favor teams that run the ball and play defense, Montrose fits the bill. In the last two contests the Indians have only allowed a total of 17 points.
#8 Denver South vs #9 Durango
No matter the bracket, eight versus nine matches are almost always fun. South, last years’ runner up, are riding on the legs of senior Zach Lindsay and junior Trevonte Tasco, who have combined for nearly 2,500 rush yards on the season. Durango boasts three runners who have rushed for over 400 yards.
#4 Falcon vs #9 Dakota Ridge
Can Dakota Ridge keep Kalen Ballage in check? The Dakota Ridge offense has averaged nearly 40 points a game in the past two wins behind QB Braxton Thais.
#5 Pueblo South vs #12 Longmont
Longmont has struggled the past two weeks while South is on an eight game win streak. Home field for South will play big in what will be a close game.
#3 Pine Creek vs #14 Pueblo West
Since two early season road losses to 5A Columbine and Lakewood, Pine Creek has reeled off eight straight wins. The Pueblo West run game needs to play keep away from an Eagles’ offense that has put up over forty points in three straight games.
#6 Windsor vs #11 Standley Lake
Two of the best defenses in 4A square off. Standley Lake needs to focus after last week’s loss to Monarch.
#7 Loveland vs #10 Broomfield
The Indians have won three straight since a tough loss to Windsor. Broomfield rebounded last week after getting dominated by Monarch the week before.
#2Monarch vs #15 Vista Ridge
The champs are the heavy favorites, but Vista Ridge boasts great young talent especially sophomore QB Elway Tubbs.
Five to Watch
Big junior RB Mike Rocha of Montrose moves the chains and is a beast in short yardage, currently has 21 TDs.
Junior QB Nathan Spinuzzi has completed over 66% of his passes this season for Pueblo South
Athlete Scotty Savage of Pine Creek, a 6-1 180 pound senior does a little bit of everything for the offense of the Eagles.
Junior Tre Tasco of Denver South has played his best football in the second half of the season. He and senior Zach Lindsay may be the best one, two running punch in the playoffs.
