Earlier this week I picked Pomona to go deep in playoffs due to their combination of defense and the ability to run the ball. In the first round of playoffs running the ball was not a problem as senior running back Chris Marquez rushed 234 yards and six touchdowns in a win over Fountain-Fort Carson.
Zach Young had the equivalent of a career Friday moving Doherty to the second round of playoffs on 346 yards rushing and 7 TDs in a win over Gateway.
Nate Starks had 106 yards and two scores on seven carries as Cherry Creek dominated Lakewood in the first round of playoffs.
Senior QB Tyler Heinsma had three scores in a 32-8 win over Westminster.
Christian McCaffrey of Valor had two scores on the ground, two TD receptions and a punt return for a score as his Eagles moved on to the second round.
Trey Smith of Douglas County rushed for 216 yards and four scores as Douglas County defeated Legend 64-34.
Junior Chukwuma Obinnah had 215 yards as Grandview defeated Prairie View 47-6 in the first round.
Austin Conway had 164 passing yards, 148 rushing yards and had a hand in all three Overland TDs, leading his Trailblazers to a first round win over Rangeview.
Regis junior QB Matt Houghtaling had 169 rush yards as the Raiders handled Fort Collins 49-7 in the first round of playoffs.
