One of the surprises of Colorado 5A football this season is the Chatfield Chargers. Opening the season with an upset win over Cherokee Trail, the Chargers have held the momentum running their current record to the 3-0. In the three victories the Chargers have averaged 35 points a game.
Running the Chatfield offense is talented 2015 QB Kyle Winkler. The 6-0 175 pound Winkler has thus far on the season hit on 73% of his passes with eight touchdowns and no interceptions on the way to 670 yards. Breaking down his own game Winkler says he has, "worked to improve on the ability to move and avoid rush in the pocket and to develop a quicker, more efficient release." On the plus side Winkler feels, "accuracy, reading defenses, arm strength, footwork, and anticipation" are the strengths of this game." Like all players regardless of the level, Winkler would like to get bigger and faster.
This past summer Winkler camped at Colorado and Virginia. Currently Winkler says he is getting some initial interest from Colorado, San Diego State and Bucknell.
