Westmoreland Talks SDSU

Pursued by colleges for both football and baseball, 2014 ThunderRidge athlete Brody Westmoreland discusses his recent decision.

Few players in the state of Colorado have as many post high school options as 2014 ThunderRidge athlete Brody Westmoreland. A very good high school quarterback, courted by multiple college programs, a strong student and one of Colorado's best baseball players, last week Westmoreland reported that he would play college baseball at San Diego State. PrepColorado tracked Brody down to get his take on his college choice as well as his decision to play baseball.

First off, why San Diego State?

It's amazing! I'm so excited to play ball out there! The coaches are great and so is the campus.

What aspects about San Diego State stood out?

When I was at San Diego State I felt that is where I could reach my goal of playing pro baseball, especially with their player development and good they coach the kids there. I have always loved San Diego State and dreamed of playing there when I went to their camp my eight grade summer.

Tell us about the prospect of playing for Tony Gwynn?

He is the greatest hitter to ever play the game and I can't wait to play and practice with a Hall of Famer. I always try to have the greatest swing that people will see and there is no one better to learn from than that man!

Regarding sports, why did you opt for baseball over football?

I have always been in love with baseball. I had to think to myself what sport I could not see myself not playing again in my life and that sport was baseball.

How does making an early decision help you focus on ThunderRidge baseball and football?

It helps release the stress of the recruiting process and having to worry about everything. I can now just play and have the time of my life with my teammates.
