To say 2013 Valor Christian products Levi Waddell and Daryl Hawkins are teammates is an understatement. The duo, productive and multi-talented members of recent Valor Christian state championship squads, are the equivalent of brothers as Hawkins has lived with the Waddell family the past few years. This week, Waddell and Hawkins decided to stay local and play their college ball at Colorado-Mesa.
The 6-2 210 pound Waddell, who played on both sides of the ball for Valor, could play safety, outside backer or tight end for Mesa. Waddell chose Mesa over North Central College, Western and Redlands.
Hawkins, who had originally opted for Fort Hays State, averaged nearly nine yards a carry this season. Hawkins, who shared carries in the Valor backfield with Christian McCaffrey, was a key component to the Eagle's playoff run, using his 215 pound frame to eat clock and move the chains late in games.
Both Hawkins and Waddell decided on Mesa due to its proximity to home as well the facilities, coaching staff and potential of the program.
