Skipper Speaks

Skipper Speaks

In the midst of preparing for the 5A Colorado semifinals and in response to questions about his recruitment, Ralston Valley offensive tackle Dan Skipper checks in with PrepColorado.

It has been quite a week for 2013 Ralston Valley OT Dan Skipper. The 6-10 295 pound tackle and early Tennessee commit has seen his phone explode since the firing of Vols Head Coach Derek Dooley. More important to Skipper is his team's prep for this weekend's 5A semifinal matchup against Cherokee Trail. Taking a look at his 11-1 Mustang squad and their success this season Skipper says, "We are running the ball well. As a team we are not getting complacent and we are putting out a lot of effort." Regarding his own game, Skipper cites pass blocking as an area he is always working on. This is especially important in that Mustang QB Jacob Knipp is a close friend and Skipper says if, "he (Knipp)gets sacked I hear about it all weekend."

Regarding the potential change in his recruiting status, Skipper is playing his cards close to the vest, a smart move for a smart young man who sports a 3.97 GPA to go with a 29 on the ACT. Skipper does say he may take some visits and he does admit he has been contacted by many schools over the past two weeks as the Vols lost to Missouri and Vanderbilt leading to Dooley's dismissal.

In preparation for the college game Skipper talks about the need to add size and strength. Having been at Tennessee and being around DI programs, Skipper realizes how much bigger he needs to be saying, "the better the program, the stronger you have to be."

Combining great size, maturity, smarts and the athleticism and willingness to improve for the college game, Skipper will make a great commit whether it is with Tennessee or a new suitor.
