Right now, one of the most intriguing athletes in Colorado is 2014 Falcon High School athlete Kalen Ballage. Standing a long 6-2 and weighing 215 pounds, Ballage more than passes the eye test. Add in legit 10.8 speed and honed athletic skills and you can see why he is on the radar as one of Colorado's top prospects.
A look at Ballage's stat sheet goes further to show the young player's multi-faceted skill set. Thus far, for his 4-0 Falcons, Ballage has averaged nine yards a carry and scored four times as a runner. As a receiver he has averaged 23 yards a catch and scored three times. Potentially he is most dangerous with the ball in his hand working as a punt returner averaging close to 25 yards per return. Add in solid play on defense, where Ballage is one of the team's leader in tackles and has also posted two sacks and his versatility is complete.
In reviewing film of Ballage his speed and size immediately stand out, but a closer look highlights a soft set of hands and an ever improving player. What is scary about Ballage is how raw he is. He plays too high on both sides of the ball, he often takes false steps and misses defensive keys, yet he still makes plays. Once he becomes a football player and not just an athlete, Ballage could be unstoppable.
As is my tendency, I like Ballage on the defensive side of the ball in college. Depending on the front and scheme, Ballage could put his tremendous gifts to greatest use as a weakside, outside backer. Coverage, rushing the passer and playing in space look to be his strongest attributes. This is not to say he could not play other positions but his most immediate impact would be on defense,
