The Browns add some versatility to their offensive line.

April 28, 2012

BEREA, Ohio—The Browns know you can never have too many offensive linemen and added competition and depth with the selection of Ryan Miller in the fifth round (6-8, 295 pounds) with the pick they obtained from the Broncos in the Brady Quinn trade.

Miller was a four-year starter at Colorado.  He played guard, but is projected as a right tackle at the pro level.

“(The Browns) took me as an O-lineman,” he said.  “One of my strengths is that I’m versatile.”

Miller could challenge for a starting spot at right tackle or either guard.  At worse, he will provide versatility and depth.

Miller sees his height as an advantage, even at the guard spot.

“I think it gives me a lot more power in the legs and it gives me leverage,” Miller said.  “I also have long arms, which helps me in pass blocking.”

Miller set the Colorado record for most career games with 47 starts (48 if you include the 2007 Independence Bowl).  Miller earned second-team All-American honors from Walter Camp and third-team by the Associated Press).

One of Miller’s highlights where he got noticed came in 2008 when he went up against Nebraska (and current Lion) Ndamukong Suh.  Miller played as well against Suh as any offensive lineman in the country.  His grade against Nebraska was a season-high 89 percent.

“The game against Suh was one of my better games,” Miller said.  “I figured early on I would be in the NFL because in high school my coach helped me unlock my tools.”

Miller sums up his style of play simply.

“I try to play physically and nasty,” he said.  “I might not be the most technically sound player, but I’ll bite, claw and scratch to get the job done.”
