This past season 2012 athlete Gavin McHenry took strides to establish himself as an up and coming all around football player in Colorado. The 5-11 180 performer does it all for his Parker, Chaparral squad as he returns kicks, plays corner and works as a receiver.
This past season, McHenry's major contribution was as a corner for his Chaparral team. Three interceptions and 11 pass breakups were enough to help McHenry gain All-Conference honors. Not only a cover corner, McHenry posted 47 tackles and shows a willingness to get dirty in the open field.
McHenry also puts his skills on display for Chaparral as a returner and receiver. In these formats, McHenry was able to put his 4.4 speed to work averaging 30 yards per kickoff return and 22 yards per reception. Next season more of the offensive load will fall on McHenry's shoulders in an attempt to make up for the loss of J.D. Henry, Christian Gann and Jordan Serena.
Always looking to improve his game and hopeful increase his DI interest, Henry has a busy spring set up hitting camps. Last week McHenry was invited attend Colorado State Junior Day. McHenry will also represent team Colorado at the Badger Sports 7 on 7 in Las Vegas in March. In June, McHenry will compete a Saturday Night Lights at Colorado and also camp at Nebraska.Along with his exploits on the field, McHenry is a very strong student with a 3.7 GPA. As the spring camp and combine season gets under way, keep an eye on this talented triple threat that is poised for a strong senior campaign.
